[9 Photos] S.African Airways plane Hijacked by a Zimbabwean

Yesterday someone tried to hijack a South African airways flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg. Today it was announced that it was a Zimbabwean student studying at the University of Cape Town who did it.



When the plane was in the air, people noticed a young man in the business class section of the plane acting strangely. About 30 minutes into the flight he suddenly grabbed hold of an air hostess and held a hypodermic needle to her throat. He threatened to kill her. He asked to be given access to the cockpit. He demanded that the plane be flown to Mozambique. A number of passengers attacked the Zimbabwean hijacker and overpowered him. The plane turned back to Cape Town and landed.



The real fiasco however began once the plane had landed. The Police SWAT team took a long time to arrive, and when they did, they caused more consternation among the passengers than the hijacker had. The photos below show the plane on the ground and the Police SWAT team entering it.






The Zimbabwean student is being held and interrogated in this Police station. He will also be sent for psychiatric evaluation.

What really ticked off the passengers were the SWAT team and not the hijacker. One passenger remarked that they were worried there was a bomb on the plane but the Police forced the passengers to remain in the plane for an hour! This lady below says that she was slapped against her head by a member of the SWAT team who told her to keep her head down. By the way, SAA say that their cockpit doors are armoured, and there is no way the hijacker would have been allowed in.



Now I know this incident must have traumatised all you South Africans out there, and maybe, like me, you are thinking that we should stop flying altogether. This must be the first hijacking in South Africa, and we thought it would never happen here, and suddenly even flying is no longer safe. But you know guys, we owe it to the ladies to keep those planes in the air. I mean, take a look at the little honey below. Imagine her screaming her head off, and nearly fainting from fear. So, to hell with that darned Zimbabwean terrorist I say, and grab her in your arms, and assist her with her respiratory processes and keep her from passing out!!
