Police in the Western Cape have recovered a total of R3.5 million worth of drugs in two days in Khayelitsha in separate incidents.

The latest incident comes after a tactical operation was carried out by the police’s Anti-Economic Crime Task team in collaboration with the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Policing Team in Thaleni Square.

Latest bust
The provincial police spokesperson, Thembakazi Mpendukana, said the operation took place on Wednesday, August 26.

“At around 5.30am, members received intelligence about suspected drug activities happening at the mentioned address. They followed up, and this resulted in the discovery of nine packets of mandrax tablets, each containing 1,000 tablets, including 300 loose mandrax tablets. Further investigation led to 12 sachets of crystal meth and 4.15 grams of rock cocaine found at the premises,” Mpendukana said.

The drugs seized are valued at R2 million.

A 37-year-old man was arrested. He faces charges of possession of drugs and dealing in drugs. He will make his first court appearance at Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once charged.
