A claim has resurfaced linking DA MP Ian Cameron to an alleged plan to remove national police commissioner Fannie Masemola.

IDAC prosecutor Drushantha Ramsamy clarified that her remarks were based on suspicion rather than a definitive conclusion.

Last week, she implicated her former supervisor, Advocate Andrea Johnson, and suspended chief investigator Dylan Perumal in an alleged attempt to orchestrate Masemola's removal.

While her testimony suggested Cameron's connection to the events in question, Ramsamy emphasised during questioning that she was not concluding he had participated in the alleged plot.

Instead, she explained that the sequence of events raised concerns for her.

Evidence leader Lee Segeels-Ncube reinforced the distinction, telling the commission that Ramsamy’s evidence was intended to establish the foundation for her suspicion.

“What she seeks to show the commissioners is that these are discussions that were exclusively among IDAC,” Ncube said.

“It may have been that some parliamentary committee on policing members were involved, but she doesn’t have evidence of that.”

Ramsamy previously testified that Perumal approached Cameron seeking his participation as a complainant in an IDAC investigation into alleged corruption within crime intelligence.

She said Cameron agreed to come on board, a claim he has rejected.
