Mike Procter (1946–2024) — South African Cricketer

Widely regarded as one of the most natural talents the game of cricket has ever seen, Mike Procter was denied the chance to fully showcase his abilities on the international stage due to South Africa's sporting isolation. In the seven Test matches he did play — all against Australia — he took 41 wickets at an average of 16, and averaged 34.83 with the bat. He was passionately loyal to his English county side, Gloucestershire, and scored six centuries in consecutive first-class innings while playing for Rhodesia in the early 1970s. He also went on to coach South Africa as they returned to international cricket. ESPNcricinfo

He captured 1,417 wickets across 401 first-class matches and was named the Professional Cricketers' Association Player of the Year in 1970 and 1977. As captain, he led Gloucestershire to the Benson & Hedges Cup in 1977, and in 1994 he coached the South African team that defeated England at Lord's by 356 runs. Wikipedia

Later in his career he served as an ICC match referee. He died on 17 February 2024 at the age of 77, following cardiac arrest complications during heart surgery.
